Okay, we've done one more test load after the developers have told us they fixed everything.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I have not run the final resequencing fix, so don't get too concerned about bad sequencing on the new forum. We'll check that out in depth after issue release ~Dec 15th.

Go check it out at:

https://forum.mrhmag.com

It looks pretty good to me. In my initial testing, the image link bugs and the blog index link bugs have been fixed. Unless we find something completely ugly that we can't fix later, we're planning to go live the weekend of Dec 18.

Remember when we reload, we completely blow away all old data, including your login. That means you have to start completely over by establishing a new login password on the new forum -- how to do that is below.

Please confirm the errors have been fixed

Those of you who reported errors previously (other than sequencing errors), please confirm that they have been fixed, because THIS is the conversion code we're going with unless someone points out something really bad that remains.

Where??

Hi Joe,

Where would you like the test results put??

  1. here in the old forum - where they will be "migrated" into the new forum
  2. there in the new forum - where the test results will disappear when the final forum upload occurs.

Thoughts??

Roundup... Looks OK

Dear Joe,

Just did a quick roundup, just about everything that I had found earlier seems to test OK,
and the User Photo Album and Insert Image issues will just have to wait for the headroom/tech-resources to become available...

Do what you gotta do, the hardcore will stick thru it and see you on the other side...

Happy Modelling,
Best of Luck!

I still have the same issue

I still have the same issue with the pictures not showing in the opening post to my "Bunza's Boatworks" blog. All pics show in subsequent post so a minor problem and not a deal breaker but thought you should know.

Check Spam folder?

Dear Bernd,

Check your Spam folder? Worked fine for me 3 hours ago,
the "follow link to reset password" email landed in under 30 seconds from hitting the "reset password" button...

Double Signatures

The bug previously reported with the auto-signatures is still there.

In the old forum there is a bug that automatic signatures do not add to the initial post to a topic.  One had to manually add their signature to that initial topic-starting post.

The new forum apparently fixes that, but now posts carried forward from the old forum have a double signature on the opening posts (the automatic signature in addition to the "manual" signature from the old forum post).

Check the Weekly Photo Fun posts for obvious examples.

I suspect that this is something that can't be reasonably fixed, and affected posts will have to be manually edited after the conversion.

rewrite MRH URLs from posts?

Hi Joe,

In this post:

https://forum.mrhmag.com/post/how-much-of-a-layout-can-one-uno-based-dccex-system-power-12173039?pid=1330789505

there is a full URL to a different thread in the old forum. I suggest rewriting them as well while importing. The redirect will work initially, but do you plan to keep the redirect rules around forever?

Cheers,

.costin

Links to MRH mag threads loose text?

Joe, compare the “I want to try…” links close to the end of this blog post:

from: https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/43827
/>

With the same links in the converted new forum post:

Double signatures

As for the double signatures, there's no easy way to find and remove those in the conversion. We will just have to edit them out later as we discover them. Not a show-stopper.

Bad hyperlink text still

Good one, Ken. While not necessarily a show-stopper, that's an example of some hyperlinks they missed. That text should not have gotten lost. They maintained it on the other links, just not the links you show. I've passed this on to the developers to fix. Hopefully they can fix it quickly and we can do one more test before the 18th.

That will be fixed

Michael, that will be fixed by our sequencing patch that I have yet to run. So we should see that corrected when we do this for real.

No Joy

I looked in my spam folder on both e-mail addresses, nothing. Used both just my e-mail addresses and just my name. Nothing. I did see a red box appear above the reset e-mail box. It looks like it's telling me I don't have an e-mail address in my account. I was able to sign on before this last test run.

@Bernd

Sounds like you're missing a step. Please re-watch the how-to login video again above and follow the steps closely.

Basically, the process is ...

Type your login name Bernd and then type random junk in the password box.

On the next screen, read the text in the red box carefully (you have no password on your account to start with) and then click the blue password reset utility link to get it to email you a password reset link.

On the next screen, type your username (Bernd) and your MRH email (****@frontiernet.net -- replace the ***** with your real email first part, I used the * to protect your email from public exposure), then have it send you the reset link.

Same Insertion of random HTML special characters in signatrue

Hi,

As with the last time, I had additional special HTML characters inserted in my profile signature.

So I hit the pencil and edited them out. Then checked with a post of mine on SMA20... Everything good.

If I hit the "save changes" again after the edit each time I hit "save changes" it would add additional characters into the signature. Here is the sequence, for example, starting with the corrected signature:

Then I removed the bottom colon and added spaces before the first link, like:

/> Home Page   https://www.scalemodelanimation.com/

and subsequent "save changes" with re-entering the edit mode yielded:

@geoffb

Thanks for your post, Geoff. That sounds like a general signature editor bug, and I will file that one right away. That likely has little to do with the conversion itself. When it comes to general bugs, the programmers are pretty responsive and they have gotten right on them, so we may even have this one licked by the move, we'll see.

Odd Picture Issue

Hi,

If you copy text and a picture as a quote in a new comment it resizes the picture to "full size" if the picture was resized smaller -- resizing is not maintained through the copy and paste.

Example given in This is a new topic for the new forum and is meaningless

post.

Have fun!
Best regards,
Geoff

Not working

Followed the instructions to a T. No luck. I do not get an e-mail sent to my e-mail address. It worked on a previous installation.

What does the "all tags" button do?

I tried to use that like the Search blank on the old forum and got a "too many requests" reply.

Is there a search facility on the new forum?

Information

Joe,

I think I know why I can't update my log in on the new forum. I have changed my e-mail address on the account page to one that doesn't exist. When the last test run was done it took the new spoof address with it. So it's not getting to me. I changed it back to what it should be.
